A few things to know

Live Translate turns speech into spoken translations and readable text. Speech to text keeps the words in their original language.

Get started

  1. Enter an API key supplied by your service operator.
  2. Choose a target language, then tap a mode and allow microphone access.
  3. Tap the same button to stop. Copy the text when you’re ready.

On your iPhone

Keep the app visible and the screen unlocked. A session ends when you leave the app. Use headphones to prevent the microphone from hearing the translated voice. Sound follows your phone’s selected output.

Add to your Home Screen

On iPhone, open the browser’s Share menu and choose Add to Home Screen. If offered, enable Open as Web App. On Android or desktop Chrome, use the browser’s install option.

Your audio and key

Audio streams through this service’s relay to a cloud speech service. Translation needs an internet connection and may incur usage charges. The relay does not save audio, transcripts, or entered keys. Cloud processing is subject to the service’s own data policies.

Your key and transcript stay in this page’s memory and are cleared when you reload or close it. An installed app can open offline, but cannot translate offline.

Speech to text uses the live translation service’s source transcript. The service may also generate translated text internally; audio output is disabled in this mode.
